Delete Your Modiri Account

Last updated: 26 August 2026  |  Elementary Data And Software (Pty) Ltd t/a Modiri

This page lets you delete your Modiri account and the personal information attached to it. You do not need the app installed and you do not need to sign in.

It covers both of our apps: Modiri for homeowners (za.co.modiri.modiri_client) and Modiri Artisan for artisans and company members (za.co.modiri.modiri_handyman). One account works across both, so closing it closes both.

Deleting your account cannot be undone. We cannot restore it, and we cannot re-create your reviews, your ratings or your job history afterwards.

1. The quickest way: from inside the app

If you still have the app installed, this is faster and needs no email round-trip:

You will see the same list of what is deleted and what is kept that appears below, and you will be asked to type DELETE to confirm.

2. Deleting from here, without the app

Enter the email address on your Modiri account. We will email you a confirmation link that works once and expires after 30 minutes. Nothing is deleted until you open that link and confirm on this page.

We do this because we have no way to know it is really you otherwise. An open form that closed an account on submit would let anyone who knows your email address destroy your account, and section 23 of POPIA requires us to verify who is asking before we act.

Use the address you signed up with. For your protection we send the same reply whether or not that address has an account, so check your inbox and your spam folder.

3. What is permanently destroyed

When your account is closed, all of the following are overwritten and cannot be recovered:

You will also be signed out everywhere immediately, and you will not be able to sign in again.

4. What we keep, and why

Some records survive because South African law requires it, or because they belong to the other person in a job as much as they belong to you. Where a record survives, your name is removed from it — except on tax invoices, which is explained first because it is the one place your personal details are deliberately kept.

How long we keep them

Tax invoices are kept for five years from the end of the tax year they fall in, because section 29 of the Tax Administration Act 28 of 2011 requires it. The other records above are kept for as long as they remain the other person’s record of a job, a payment or a dispute, and are then removed on our normal retention schedule. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.

5. If money is still moving

We will not close an account while a payout is still on its way to you or while a job is in progress with money held in escrow — closing it would strand your money. If that is the case, the page will tell you the amount, the job and when it is expected to clear. Try again once those are settled, or email support@modiri.co.za if something looks stuck.

7. Questions, or a link that stopped working

Confirmation links expire after 30 minutes and work only once. If yours has expired, ask for a new one in section 2. For anything else, email privacy@modiri.co.za from the address on your account, or support@modiri.co.za. We reply within 30 days, as POPIA requires.
